This Close to Sitting

It always starts well, and then there's the flip, and the roll. She doesn't seem to mind. I find it humorous that she's doing this the exact same time as her sister did, almost to the day. Freaky genetics.

Rosy's other trick. An early rocking chair addiction. I haven't blogged in days because I have holding her all night long. From 6PM on. As soon as I'd put her down with John or in the co-sleeper, she'd be writhing and grunting, immediately placated by the rocking chair. Same story in bed at night. Needs to be rocked every time she wakes. This happened with Sophie, but much farther down the line, at a time when I felt like I could break her habits and not feel guilty. But I reminded myself that if Rosy's smart enough to get me back in that chair a dozen times a night, she's also smart enough to give in to me and fall asleep in the bed. She fussed and fidgeted a bit last night, but I kept her in bed. And tonight I tried a new tactic, wearing her to sleep. She got really cozy and deeply asleep before I deposited her on the couch. It seems to be working better, touch wood.

Needless to say, we are exhausted. So exhausted that I forgot Sophie's shoes today and had to purchase some ridiculous Cookie Monster slippers to go into the library. Lucky kid. Then we went through the Starbucks drivethru so that I could fuel up for the afternoon. I heard Sophie in the back say, "Don't worry, Your mommy's just getting some coffee. We have to be very patient. It won't take long." Worth it. All of it, to hear my big girl talk to my baby that way. Just precious.
